Universal Rail has partnered with Metrolinx and is approved to offer Track Inspection Guidelines (TIG), Continuous Welded Rail (CWR), and Movement Over Rail Break (MORB) training and certification. With the increased number of construction activities happening on or around Metrolinx railways, more people than ever are exposed to the hazards and risks of working in a railway environment. All individuals working on our rail network must be trained in how to safely work and operate in this environment before they begin work. Universal Rail is committed to offering the highest quality training for all industry needs.
The TIG/CWR/MORB training program is required by:
1. All Employees responsible for the maintenance, rehabilitation, construction, and/or inspection of track owned and maintained by Metrolinx must comply with Metrolinx Track Inspection Guidelines Competency Management Procedure, including:
- Minimum Training Requirements; and
- Must demonstrate competency compliance in intervals not exceeding 365 calendar days.
2. All Employees responsible for regulatory inspection of track owned and maintained by Metrolinx must be trained in Movement Over Rail Breaks in addition to the requirements of Track Standard 2.2.2.
3. All Employees responsible for the inspection, installation, adjustment, or maintenance of CWR track must be trained and pass a qualifying test on CWR
Procedures
As part of the TIG/CWR/MORB program, you will be required to:
- Register for a scheduled training session or email us with your alternate request.
- Attend four in-class training days and one in-field training day. Participants will be required to have valid PTS training and their own PPE in compliance with the Metrolinx standard for the field day.
- Actively participate in the training sessions.
- Complete a Knowledge Assessment at the end of the course.

- Metrolinx Personal Track Safety (PTS) Course
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Metrolinx Standard
Upon Completion of the Course:
Participants will be certified in Track Inspection Guidelines (TIG), Continuous Welded Rail (CWR), and Movement Over Rail Break (MORB) approved on Metrolinx property.
