Course(s) Overview
Universal Rail Systems is committed to helping you meet your training needs. For track protection, we have different course options:
- Safety Watch/Lone Worker (SW/LW): 1-day or 3-day options: This course has a theory component which covers all applicable rules and instructions for SW/LW protection on Metrolinx property. The one-day option is a theory classroom session designed for around 8 hours, including breaks. The three-day option includes the theory classroom day and adds two field days where participants will practically apply the SW/LW protection.
- Non-main Track (CROR 841): 1-day or 3-day options: This course has a theory component which covers all applicable rules and instructions for non-main track (CROR 841) protection on Metrolinx property. The one-day option is a theory classroom session designed for around 8 hours, including breaks. The three-day option includes the theory classroom day and adds four field days where participants will practically apply the non-main track protection.
- Track Occupancy Permit (TOP) 1-day or 6-day options: This course has a theory component which covers all applicable rules and instructions for TOP protection on Metrolinx property. The one-day option is a theory classroom session designed around 8 hours, including breaks. The six-day option includes the theory classroom day and adds five field days where participants will practically apply the TOP protection.
- CROR 842 Sub-foreman 1-day or 10-day options: This course has a theory component which covers all applicable rules and instructions for CROR 842 Sub-foreman protection on Metrolinx property. The one-day option is a theory classroom session designed for around 8 hours, including breaks. The ten-day option includes the theory classroom day and adds nine field days where participants will practically apply the CROR 842 Sub-foreman protection.
- CROR 842 Foreman 1-day or 10-day options: This course has a theory component which covers all applicable rules and instructions for CROR 842 Foreman protection on Metrolinx property. The one-day option is a theory classroom session designed for around 8 hours, including breaks. The ten-day option includes the theory classroom day and adds nine field days where participants will practically apply the CROR 842 Foreman protection.
- USRC Familiarization 1-day or 3-day options: This course has a theory and practical component, which covers all applicable rules and instructions for the Union Station Rail Corridor (USRC) Metrolinx property. The one-day theory classroom session is designed around all rules and instructions pertaining to the USRC. The second and third day, if you opt for the 3-day course, will encompass navigating the entire USRC territory while practicing to use the schematics and learning the basics of the USRC railway.
- Organizational Diligence 1-day: This course is a theory-based, in-class course that covers the requirements for qualifying and managing track protection personnel. The course will cover components on evaluations, attestation, inspections, observations, supervision, documentation and retention.

- Metrolinx approved CROR/GEI
As part of the Track Protection courses, you will be required to:
- Read and acknowledge the terms and conditions.
- Attend the scheduled training session.
- Actively participate in the training session.
- Complete a Knowledge Assessment at the end of the course days.
